What Is A Witch: A Witch/ Sorceress is the feminine counterpart to a Sorcerer. Sorcery is basically what we call Science in modern day, except science is the watered down curriculum version. A Sorcerer/ Sorceress would've been the technical term and witch would've been more like street slang.
